The Hartford region is located in north central Connecticut midway between Boston and New York City. Interstates I-84 and I-91 intersect the region with I-95 and I-90 in close proximity. Greater Hartford is home to Bradley International Airport, one of the nation's fastest growing airports and the second largest in New England.

The Hartford Labor Market encompasses Hartford, Tolland, and Middlesex counties, representing a population of 1,148,618 and a labor force of 600,323. The Hartford region enjoys the 2nd most productive labor force in the world and ranks 1st in GDP per capita.

Hartford serves as the headquarters for several Fortune 500 companies, including United Technologies Corporation, The Hartford Financial Group, Aetna Inc, and Northeast Utilities. Hailed as ¿the insurance capital of the world,¿ Greater Hartford is home to corporate headquarters or divisions of the world's largest insurance companies: The Phoenix Companies, St. Paul Travelers, CIGNA, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, ING, Prudential Financial/Prudential Retirement and Uniprise.

The Hartford economy is dominated by several other industries including aerospace and information technology, precision machining, health care and medical device. Foreign owned companies such as Ahlstrom, Henkel Loctite, LEGO Systems, Retail Brand Alliance, Trump Inc. enjoy the regions strategic location and superb access to North American markets.

Hartford ranks among the top six percent of North American regions for the arts. In addition to the abundance of arts, heritage, culture, sports, and entertainment in the Hartford region, one can enjoy the benefits of a four season climate. Connecting many of the Hartford region's towns and neighborhoods, the Connecticut River provides a dynamic waterfront experience. Connecticut's shoreline, with its sandy beaches, is a 40-minute drive south. To the north are some of New England's highest mountains, perfect for skiing and hiking
